BitByBit is the first cutting board made from PHA, a material grown by nature, not manufactured from fossil fuels. It works exactly like you're used to. Every plastic board sheds microplastic particles into your food with every use. Those particles don't break down, they accumulate in your body and in nature for decades. BitByBit is made from PHA, nature's answer to plastic. If particles are released during use, they are broken down by natural systems. Nothing persistent left behind.

PHA stands for polyhydroxyalkanoate, a biopolymer produced by microorganisms through natural fermentation using plant-based sugars or oils. No fossil fuels, fully circular, and certified biodegradable in soil, compost, and marine environments by TÜV Austria. Tested for food-safe use and compliant with European food contact regulations.

Dishwasher-safe, knife-friendly, and resistant to heat and moisture. PHA only breaks down when microorganisms have the time and conditions to become active, like in soil or compost. A dishwasher is too hot and too fast for that to happen. Your board stays intact. Size: 30 × 20 × 0.7 cm.

Produced in the Netherlands with partner Wicro Plastics, running entirely on green energy combining solar and Dutch wind power. Does it really leave no microplastics behind?

Yes. Traditional plastic boards shed microplastics that stay in your food, your body, and the environment. BitByBit is made from PHA, a material designed to break down naturally.

The particles released during use don’t persist. They are processed by natural systems, instead of accumulating. That’s the difference.

What is PHA?

BitByBit is made from 100% PHA (polyhydroxyalkanoate).

It’s a biopolymer produced by microorganisms through natural fermentation.

Unlike conventional plastics, it’s designed to return to nature after use. In simple terms: plastic, reimagined.

Is it really biodegradable?

Yes, but not in a “disappears overnight” way.

BitByBit breaks down in natural environments where microorganisms are present, like soil or compost. You can put it in compost, but it takes time. Bacteria need to grow and do their work.

In the body, PHA is processed by natural systems and ultimately converted into CO₂ and water. No shortcuts. No greenwashing.

Is it dishwasher safe?

Absolutely.

Even though PHA is designed to be broken down by microorganisms, that only happens in environments where they have time to grow and stay active, like soil, compost, or the body.

A dishwasher is the opposite. It’s hot, fast, and chemically active. There’s no stable environment for bacteria to grow, and no time for them to do their work.

Is it safe for my knives and food?

Yes, the surface is non-porous, so it doesn’t absorb liquids or bacteria. It’s easy to clean and fully dishwasher safe.

PHA is slightly softer than traditional plastic, which makes it gentler on your knives, helping them stay sharp longer.
